My prom dress was handmade by my friend’s mom. We went and picked out the fabric and I chose a brilliant cobalt blue. I love cobalt blue. It reminds me of Mexican glassware, dainty Egyptian perfume bottles and Moroccan mosaic tiles. My love affair with cobalt blue has continued throughout the years and I have slowly amassed a collection of clothing items, shoes and accessories in this electric hue.
I stumbled upon this dress this week at Marshall’s. The print is quite funky with its unexpected mix of yellow, pink and blue but I loved the African inspiration, the hi-low cut and there is an awesome cut out detail on the back. It will be great for the warm Summer days ahead, but I couldn’t wait to wear it so I paired it with a light shrug and heels for a breezy Spring day. I took the blue in the pattern and ran with it, as a solid color to tone down the wild pattern of the dress. Leave it to me to use the brightest color to “tone down” an outfit!
I paired it with a mix of tribal bangles (love my bangles) and gold accents in my necklace and earrings. This dress is so versatile. Later in the day I switched to a wide yellow braided belt and yellow sandals and it looked just as great!
