Forever on Safari

“You know you are truly alive when you’re living among lions.” ~ Karen Blixen, Out of Africa.

Take me back to where my soul resides, bathed in the calm of swaying reeds on the savannah, deep in the heart of Africa.

Friday Fly Away – Zanzibar

I’m planning a major getaway for my 15 year wedding anniversary at the end of the year.  Back to Kenya for safari and ending in the paradise of Zanzibar, off the coast of Tanzania. Thought I’d share a bit of inspiration from my trip planning and immerse you in this beauty.

Friday Fly Away – Etosha National Park, Namibia

It has always called to me. Its mystery like a haunting breeze that beckons you its way. There’s something about its wind swept dunes, the arid landscape and the unspoiled panorama that calls to me. My feet will sink in its red earth one day. Until then, join me as we fly away this Friday to Etosha National Park in the heart of Namibia.

Africa Always On My Mind

I have traveled to the continent of Africa four times and it has stolen my heart. Stepping on African earth awakens my spirit and warms my heart. While I live miles away from this land that holds an essence of my being, I connect to it through my fashion on a daily basis. Intricate patterns, bold fabrics, hand embroidery and beadwork are African details that I incorporate into my daily wardrobe. I respect the hands that create this art and the traditions that allow history to be shared with future generations. Forever in my heart, Africa, is always on my mind.

Friday Fly Away – Lake Nakuru

Today we are headed to the land of a thousand flamingos, Lake Nakuru, in Kenya’s Rift Valley.  It is one of the smallest reserves I visited in Kenya, but it is truly unique.  The park is anchored in the center by Lake Nakuru. The lake’s high concentration of algae attracts thousands of flamingos and other bird life, painting the shoreline pink.  You won’t see elephants and lions around the lake, but the baboons are fun company and the tunnels of acacia trees are enchanting.  I’m off to frolic away with the flamingos, until we meet again next Friday.

Friday Fly Away – Namibia

Today we are headed to the arid landscape of the Namib Desert, where the wind molds the landscape and the earth is raw.  Game viewing abounds if we look in the right places and the ever-changing shape of the rising sand dunes are sure to keep us mesmerized.  Nature can be harsh and magnificent all in the same space.  Namibia is a place to marvel at the vastness and variety of the earth’s landscape.  Enjoy your desert view until we meet again next Friday.

Friday Fly Away – Madagascar

Today, we are headed off the Eastern Coast of Africa to the enchanting island of Madagascar.  An island dotted with arid baobab tree deserts, lush jungles and orange sandy beaches.  Explore the exotic wildlife around every corner and embrace the rich culture diversity that abounds.  You are invited to unlock the mysteries of this magical island until we meet again next Friday.
