I thought it fitting that my first blog entry be an excerpt from my travel journal. I wrote this on my day of arrival in Cairo, on my second visit to Egypt. I was wide awake in the middle of the night still working off the jet lag. It sums up the heart and soul of this blog.
Travel truly is a gift beyond words. To express all the ways one is touched and changed by travel seems an unattainable feat. With every trip and every destination, your heart, your mind, your thoughts, your eyes and your arms are opened. You are grateful, humbled, thankful, enlightened, saddened, joyful, determined. You see the world in a new light, while reaffirming the beliefs you hold to be true. You realize the expanse of beauty, natural and manmade, that our planet has to offer, and you just want more. There are not enough minutes in your lifetime to be able to drink it all in. It’s immense and beautiful and amazing.
With each journey, I’ve seen that we are all human. Yes, we may have differing ideas and rituals, but at our core we have the same beating hearts, the same families, same emotions. We all rise under the same sun and sleep under the same stars.
It is not our path to judge and hate one another. We must embrace each other and our differences as these are our gifts that make us who we are. We are all special and important and each of us deserve respect and support. Love thy brother, love thy sister. To be open is to be enlightened. The gifts you receive will be innumerable if you allow yourself to be open, in heart, mind and soul.
