Summer of Wanderlust – Cartagena

Though my feet have never touched down in Cartagena, I have fallen in love with the charming cobblestone streets dotted with popsicle hued buildings.  Flowers billowing out of window sills and women selling rainbows of fruit on every corner.

I feel like it’s a city made for me. It’s colorful, a little spicy, a lot romantic, all wrapped in a tropical paradise.  Cartagena is definitely on my must visit list, but until then I’ll just let it inspire me to live this summer in full color!

Tropical Summer

Tropical motifs in fashion scream summer.  Whether its palm trees, pineapples or hibiscus flowers you can find tropical prints on just about every clothing item these days. What I love most about tropical prints is how diverse they are.  They can be playful or very sophisticated and can be worn casual or dressed up. If you’re headed to a far off island or just chillin’ by the pool, a tropical themed ensemble will have you instantly summer ready!

I personally love palm prints and I fell in love with this vintage set when I found it at the thrift store. What’s more tropical than a jungle, right? I decided to accessorize in a jungle inspired tropical look pairing this set with colorful feathers, a mask necklace and a woven clutch.  I love how the rainbow of colors pops off the green background and I think the accessories create an unexpected take on the tropical theme.

What print or accessory instantly makes you think of a tropical getaway?  Be sure to tag me on social media @IAMSHEGLOBAL so I can see your island vibes!

Among the Palms

I’m getting so excited about traveling to the island of Zanzibar at the end of the year. It is a place I have dreamed of visiting for many years and that dream of white sand beaches swept by tradewinds and crystal clear ocean will finally become a reality. Until that time, I’m letting my wardrobe express my desire to be among the palms.

Like Livin’ In The Tropics

We’re in the middle of a heat wave in Los Angeles and it feels like we’re living in the tropics. So I say, why not dress the part.  A few mixed prints with a casual fedora to keep me cool.  The banana trees aren’t a bad tropical touch either!

Everywhere I look, retailers are highlighting ethnic inspired clothing and accessories.  This makes it easier for you to incorporate your global finds with your everyday wardrobe.  This outfit is an example of how I meld local buys with worldly accessories in a seamless way.

Sunset in the Tropics

I love tropical destinations and especially the stunning colors each sunset paints the sky.  The turquoise waters, coral, yellow and lavender hues are the backdrop to the billowing clouds and the palm fronds sway in the trade winds coming ashore.  I will never get tired of the relaxed vibe and vibrant colors of island life.  This outfit is inspired by my love of the island spirit.

Friday Fly Away – Kerala

Today, we are headed off on an adventure through the backwaters of Kerala, India. Lush, tropical landscape and roaming elephants will be our travel companions as we take a houseboat cruise through the soothing, calm waters.  ‘Till we are off again, next Friday, be well.

Friday Fly Away – Antigua

This Friday we are off to one of my favorite islands in the Caribbean, Antigua. My husband and I stayed at the Galley Bay Resort for a blissful week and this was the view from our room.  Three steps from our patio and our toes were in the sand.  All seven days were spent soaking in the scenery,  listening to the ocean breezes through the swaying palm fronds and drinking frosty pina coladas.  I still dream of the homemade rum raisin ice cream we had here. Today, this is where I’d love to be.
